Hireth
Cornish for a longing, loneliness, nostalgia, yearning
This body of work was a response to a personal connection; a sense of place.
The Coronavirus lockdown period was a time of reflection; yearning to take a dip in the turquoise waters on hot days but not being close enough to the beach or able to travel to it. Wanting to take long walks on the South West coast path but limited to the small countryside near home. Reflecting on this period of time through the changing season.
During this time I was at home in Cornwall, keeping in contact with my family in Yorkshire. I frequently feel torn between the two places. Connection to place is something I frequently explore in my work; as contemplation, self-reflection and how it is experienced.
Working from older sketches as well as from places close to home over a two year period.
